Degloving in the lay by: Road Traffic Accident claim case study

Jefferies have successfully secured compensation for a client who was involved in an unusual road traffic accident. Our client’s van was unfortunately hit in the rear whilst he attempted to negotiate a roundabout leading to a dual carriage way. Due to the accident happening on a busy stretch of road he manoeuvred his vehicle to a lay by next to the dual carriage way where he spoke with the other driver to obtain insurance details.

As our client returned to his van to obtain his own insurance information another vehicle, which simply did not give our client sufficient space, attempted to pass our client, striking his hand and wrist as he opened the driver’s side door of his van. Our client was airlifted to a London hospital where he underwent complex surgery to treat the degloving and fracture of his hand.

Due to the nature of our client’s physical injuries, in addition to the mental impact this ordeal had upon him, our client was unable to return to work. Our highly skilled team were able to secure our client more than £80,000.00 in compensation.

The injuries sustained in Road traffic accidents can vary greatly between each case – whilst this was an unusual accident the injuries were catastrophic requiring specialist expert input to help us understand the true extent of the damage caused and the likely level of recovery that the client could expect.
