We're back to work
It’s that time of year again. The festivities end, the alarm clock is set, and we’re back to work.
Last month, we revealed a selection of weird and wonderful Christmas-related injuries and accidents, with most of them taking place in the home.
However, when you’re back at work, are you really safe?
Unfortunately, accidents at work are more common than you think. HSE reports that there were a staggering 0.6 million non-fatal accidents at work in 2016/17. What’s more, there were 1.3 million work-related ill health cases recorded in 2016/17.
This is not good news for employers either. As the HSE indicates, these accidents translate to 31.2 million working days lost, with £5.3 billion being the annual costs of workplace injuries in 2016.
According to Byte Start, these are the most common workplace accidents and injuries:
- Slips, trips and falls
- Muscle strains
- Being hit by falling objects
- Repetitive strain injury
- Crashes and collisions
- Cuts and lacerations
- Inhaling toxic fumes
- Exposure to loud noise
- Walking into objects
- Fights at work
What should you do if you have an accident in the workplace?
As we discussed, accidents in the workplace are extremely common, with thousands of employees are forced to take time off every year as a result.
Work-related injuries can include:
- Falls from heights
- Slips and trips
- Injuries caused by faulty equipment
- Burns and scars
If you have an accident at work that wasn’t your fault, you may be entitled to compensation.
